SCOTLAND hasn’t had a major golf champion for 25 years.
But there’s a very real chance that could change within the next 24 hours.
Bob MacIntyre has surged into PGA Championship contention[/caption] Amy Macdonald was watching the golf at home – but wasn’t impressed[/caption]Paul Lawrie was the last Scot to triumph at one of golf’s big four events, winning The Open in dramatic fashion at Carnoustie.
Bob MacIntyre hadn’t even turned three years old when Lawrie was having his major moment.
But he could be the next man to etch his name into Scottish – and world – golfing history.
It’s a jam-packed top of the leaderboard at the PGA Championship at Valhalla.
US stars Xander Schauffele and two-time major champion Collin Morikawa lead the way on 15-under-par ahead of the final round in Louisville.
Sahith Theegala is one shot back, with former Open champion Shane Lowry, Bryson DeChambeau and Viktor Hovland another further back.
One short further back and just three off the lead is where you’ll find Justin Rose– and Scots ace MacIntyre.
A third round of 66 saw Oban-born MacIntyre surge up the leaderboard where he sits joint-seventh heading into the final day’s pay.
He’s firmly in contention for a first major title and one that would make him the first Scot to ever win the PGA Championship.
Scots singing star and golf fan Amy MacDonald has been watching it all unfold at home.
But she’s been left unimpressed.
Not with MacIntyre – but the amount of coverage the 27-year old has been getting on the TV coverage.
During the round, This Is The Life star MacDonald said on X: “Bob MacIntyre sitting on nine-under-par here.
“But you’d have no idea from this coverage.”
While the event is being shown on Sky Sports in the UK, the footage actually comes from the host broadcaster out in the United States.
Sky Sports commentator Andrew Coltart replied: “We get the pictures from American broadcasters Amy. We show as much as possible. It depends what they film.”
A fan said: “I’ve said exactly the same. If he is shown, it’s from Sky cameras I’d say.”
Another replied: “I’ve been screaming this at the TV for hours.”
MacIntyre will be hoping to stay in contention and give the US broadcasters little opportunity but to show him more!
After his third round, he said: “We’re out there fighting as much as we can. I’m going to get nervous but all I can do is try my best and see where we end up. If I’m in with a chance, I’m in with a chance, and then we may start thinking about winning a golf tournament.
“But until about probably the 68th hole I’m going to try and just play golf, and then at the 68th hole I have to maybe think about what I’m doing.”
